Obituary for James Cameron Jr

MAJ James L. Cameron, Jr, was an example to us all of God's infinite mercy, grace and redeeming power has passed on to be with his Lord on 30 JAN 2019. He was a true American hero, he served in the Army Air Corp as a P-38 pilot in WWII. He was shot down in Germany and was a prisoner-of-war. He earned a Purple Heart for injuries he received in combat. For 23 missions, he was awarded the Air Medal. He was a career USAF fighter pilot, flying almost every jet airplane in the early Air Force inventory. He was a devoted husband of 69 years, to his beloved wife , Anne. A father to his seven children, granddad to his 6 grandchildren and great-granddad to his 17 great-grandchildren. He was a hard worker and an example to all who knew him. He was a mentor to his peers and his children’s friends. Three of his 4 sons served in the Armed Forces.

For his second career, Jim provided schools and libraries with educational materials to promote literacy and to provide students the opportunity to explore life’s options.

As a devoted Gideon for 25 years, his life’s mission was to provide people, including his friends, and, in fact, people he had just met with the word of God.

He faithfully served as an Deacon and Elder at Trinity Presbyterian Church, spending countless hours on the Finance and Missions Committees.

Jim was instrumental in helping post-Vietnam War refugees, sponsored by Trinity. He was tireless in his efforts to secure employment, housing and education for them to prepare to become US citizens and prosper. He loved and served his Trinity Family.

In addition, Jim served on the board of his Home Owners Association. Throughout the majority of his life, he used his leadership skills, and God-given wisdom to benefit others.

Today, February 22nd marks 74 years ago that our father, brother, grandfather and great-grandfather was shot down over Germany. He was willing to give his life to fight for our freedoms. We honor his courage, commitment and integrity. We give thanks for his love for us and how he worked so hard to provide for us. We will miss his humor, his traditions and even his strong opinions. We will miss our Pops, our own true, American hero.

Jim is survived by his beloved wife, Anne (Joanne I,. Cameron) and his sister Ruthie Gordon(George); his children Stanley C. Cameron, Pamela A. Fruehwirth (John), Jan E. Cameron, Kim S.
